Artists and Recognition: Playing For Keeps Cover
One common complaint occuring on Twitter lately is that authors will gush and gush over the new cover of their book and never say who was behind it. “Hey,” I think. “That’s just wrong and unfair.” And then I think, “Ooops, guilty.” I did the exact same thing with Playing For Keeps. So I wrote my editor and asked him who the artist was.
So, a year and a half late, but still with good intentions, I want to give props to my brilliant cover designer for the Swarm Press version of Playing for Keeps, Christian Dovel! You can check out his work here, and see the fantastic PFK cover below! Thanks Christian!
Authors, remember that someone is actually BEHIND the hard work done to create your cover, and give props.
(Haven’t gotten the book yet? Find it at Amazon, B&N, and (preferably) your local indie bookstore!)

I’d like to point out that some designers are private people and don’t necessarily want to be Twittered about. Something to keep in mind.
Funny and true story; for my own book, a buddy of mine named Jeff Lieboff, a fellow AMGGF*, designed the cover for the Lulu release of And Here’s To You for me, but when I tried to work out a deal with him to get him a cut of whatever I made, he actually said no. I’m paraphrasing but he said something like “I got my logo and website on there. Plus it didn’t cost me anything to design it, so it’s all free publicity.”
I sure hope it worked, ’cause that sure is a good cover. Only complaint I ever hear was someone saying it was so good it almost looked more like a pamphlet for the Denver, CO Tourism Board.
